The Boon and Bane of Social Networking Among Students

If my in text citation was done wrongly, please correct me. Thank you! :) Assalamua'laikum.

Nowadays the youth are in Information Technology(IT) phenomenon where everything is just at the tip of their fingers. Internet has become a integral for the communities. Besides searching for information, students are also occupied with social networking. The examples of social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Social networking have plenty of advantages as well as the disadvantages for students. The advantages of social networking among students are flexible time to discuss with friends, make friends with different background and gain fast information, while the disadvantages of it are lost focus, waste of time and receive false information.
Since the internet is 24 hours available, there is the flexibility of time where students can access it whenever they want. Sometimes students would prefer to start their work at late night and having all sorts of questions or formula that they do not know. By connecting to their social network, students can interact with friends and may have discussion about the problems. According to spotlight.mcfound.org, A small but impressive study of students at Lockhaven University in Pennsylvania found that those who used Twitter to continue class discussions and complete assignments were more engaged in their classwork than students who did not, (cited in clintlalonde.net, 2011).
The next advantage of social networking is student can make new friends with people who has  different background. Academic learning can be more interesting if there are more point of view about it. A student can make new friends which are from other culture, religion, race and can ask their opinion for a certain subject such as a discussion for essay content-cultures. Here student can have a realistic information about the particular culture, religion and race. Most of the times, when people search for information through the internet they always take the unrealistic information because of no information filtering. Online materials are overflowing and therefore, it is hard for students to find the accurate answer for their question.
Gaining fast information is also an advantage from social networking among students. Everything are fast widespread via Facebook and Twitter. Any news and latest information can be gain from that site as soon as a person look into it. Students sometimes does not have to search and do information filtering to have the information that they want. Students may click on a trusted person social network site to get the related facts. This is very convenience and avoid wasting much of the student time to search for academic materials.
Despite all the advantages of social networking among students, there are a few of social networking disadvantages. The first flaw of it is looses focus from the real intention of study purpose. Students have set the mind to log in the Facebook and just discuss or asking friends about academic problems, but they usually will distray from it when seeing the feeds beside. There were a survey about students and Facebook. According to fellow student Sarah,18, most of her peers could multi-task well, but using sites like Facebook was a question of balance,(cited in Herald Sun, www.heraldsun.com).This proved that social networking can distract students because of their features or applications. Actually, social networking will get students addicted to it.
Students interacting with other student in the social network, can be a waste of time. Communicating by online let the other person have the freedom to reply whenever he or she wants to. This leads to the procrastination of time when person A is waiting for a long period for person B to reply. Students waste most of their time in front of the computers, just waiting for a simple answer as ‘yes’ or ‘no’. This is frustrating and will also put the student in a stressful situation. Many things can be done from the time that has been wasted for waiting too long for a reply. Their homework may also delayed due to depending too much on friends instead of searching materials for themselves.
Another disadvantage of social networking among students is prone to receive false information. People can post anything they want in Facebook and Twitter. The validity is not confirmed and even some of the irresponsible individual just create some random information from the thin air. Students who are immature will probably take the information without thinking further. The consequences of this problem make the students using the wrong information in their homeworks.

In a nutshell, it can be concluded that social networking can bring a positive and negative impact among the students. It will be an advantage if the students use the social network wisely and not excessively. Students should aware the priority of their work and must not be distracted by the useless act such as following vain posts and leaving behind meaningless comment or reply. It could be a disadvantages if the students are social networking without a clear goal to achieve.

Euphemism

Assalamua'laikum. O genki desu ka.

Euphemism is speaking with pleasant or vague words to take of harsh or taboo words. Many euphemisms exist to describe actions and places associated with bodily function. People throughout the world use euphemisms differently according to their culture.

The first thing that makes euphemism relevant in the society is to be polite with others. For example in Malay language, word ‘tandas’ is used instead of ‘jamban’ which both have the same meaning which is toilet. ‘Tandas’ is more suitable and more polite to use when speak with people, especially in a formal occasion or with the elderly. When using the word ‘jamban’, it is impolite and it actually shows that the user is not a very educated person and blunt in speech. This also applied to the English language. To speak courteously, ‘ladies’(women’s toilet) and ‘ gents’(men’s toilet) are used to replace the word ‘toilet’ as it sounds more decent.

The second relevance of euphemism is to prevent chaotic occasion. Just a simple turn of a word can make a big difference to the listener. As for instance, a Malay employer says ‘lambat’ to replace the word ‘bodoh’ when dealing with his employees about the employees’ work performance. Both words share the same meaning as stupid. He has to use ‘lambat’, that is a  more pleasant word to comment on the workers work to avoid offending the workers. If the boss use ‘bodoh’ it may offend the workers and they could plan something together to maltreat the boss. It then leads to more serious circumstances.

All in all,  in order to keep the society peaceful and well-bred, euphemism needs to be practiced. Words substitution as the euphemism is the best way to avoid offensive speech that can render bad consequences.

Assalamua'laikum. Tadaima..

Alhamdulillah. Today we had two tests. ALS420 and Japanese. I was so afraid to sit for Nihon test because I did not do really well in the online quiz last time. Suit myself, because I didn't do my revision. Astaghfirullahal a'ziim.

It is not that I managed to answer all the questions excellently, but..hehe... InsyaAllah ada improvement. :)

So, the morale of the story is, we have to revise. Don't do your revision at the eleventh hour as if you have a photographic memory or that you can absorb everything that you just glance at. 'Procrastination is the thief of time'. It sure is.
By the way I have another test tomorrow, Grammar. Writing this post does not mean that I'm ignoring my test for tomorrow as I am writing this in English right? Thus, its like a practice isn't it? :) Plus, I'm not typing the post recklessly without the Grammar rules.

As usual, I'm experiencing my drowsy moment right now. Hehe, why am I constantly writing when I am about to sleep or having something undone.

Well, please pray for me. (In the academic writing you are never allowed to start a sentence with 'well' or anything that similar to it.)

Ja mata = Well then.(said informally when parting from friends or relatives), arigato gozaimashita for reading my post.

Take care!

Assalamua'laikum.

I'm getting weaker and weaker each day.. (mulalah ni nak berderai ayaq mata..)

;(

----- And so, my sentences are getting shorter by each post.
Sejuknya! Gegegegege.. Menggeletar Man yang mencedok air perigi di tepi rumahnya itu. Meskipun setiap hari Man membasuh dirinya dengan air perigi, dia tetap saja tidak biasa dengan kesejukannya.

Fadhilah mengantuk!

How should I tell her? Hmmmmm, in my hand I am still holding my Sony Xperia Mini Pro, daguku bertongkat. "Don't you know what it means when a guy and his family are coming to pay a visit to a certain woman's family? It's impossible that the visit means nothing and just an ordinary one.", sending message.
A minute later, she replies, " I don't know. I just think it's going to be a normal visit.". For God sake, how naive she is! "Here it is.., I am a religious man, so it is impossible for me to be straight forward to you. Ask my elder sister."

Such an innocent thing to do, describing  myself as a religious man. I was almost burst into a laugh, when typing it.

Haaa...(sighing) the girl who stole the heart, a naive girl indeed.

Assalamua'laikum. Konbanwa. :)  'Menongkat dagu' dalam English apa? --Nasiblah last post tu tergantung. hehehe.

haih. tolonglah betulkan bahasa saya ini kalau ada nampak mana2 yg pelik.

Assalamua'laikum. :)

" Seronok tengok Fadhilah elok ceria.", a very good friend of mine once replied my SMS. Itulah kawan betul, kan?

Okay, so  today I want to write about my routine here,at UiTM Shah Alam.

7am, waking up in the morning. Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs. Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal. Seeing everything, the time is going. Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushing. Gotta get down to the bus stop. Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends. Kickin’ in the front seatSittin’ in the back seat. Gotta make my mind up. Which seat can I take?

Haha, that whole text up there is a song lyrics. Song : Friday, Singer Rebecca Black. Hihi, just playing around in this early morning.

I usually wake up around 6 a.m. everyday. Actually I did set my alarm clock at 5 am++, but... hehehe. Ini semua sebab kelas2 bukan kat sebelah bilik saya. Oooppss..terkeluaq BM. :) I just speak English from the vocabs that I acknowledge. I'm trying to practice that. If I do not know how to have a conversation in English, I will just use my mother tongue language for that certain sentence or word.

Continue.. After I wash myself and perform Subuh prayer, I will take my breaksfast. I try not to miss my breakfast. :)

huhuhu.. Sorry... I have to do something else now.. bye. See you later, InsyaAllah!

Peace out!

I chose you because of Allah. Out of many solehah out there, you chose me. Alhamdulillah...
I'm thankful to Allah for giving me a very decent person to complete me. Fuuhhh... It is agonizing. It's agonizing to keep our love sacred, when we both know that we have something for each other.

As you once said, I'm afraid that HE will take back the bless from this relationship.

.....................................................................................................................................

haa, since I need to write everyday, I'm writing the things that I'm interested in. So, please do not be mad about me being cheesy( idk whether it's 'cheesy' or 'cheezy'), or anything.

Ya Allah, rasa mcm tak percaya! Saya pernah brjanji utk tulis short stories bila saya dpt smbung study english. hihii, I don't know whether I can fulfill that or not.

Assalamua'laikum. Oyasuminasai.
